Countermeasures, Camouflage and Pyrotechnics
The technology of defense and deception in the shape of counter measures, camouflage and pyrotechnics which seek to protect aircrafts against attack and mislead the enemy detection and targeting systems. Such countermeasures include chaff, flares and electronic decoys to either provide an incorrect target to radar-guided attacks or infrared-guided attacks, or to mask the signature of the aircraft.
Camouflage methods employ special colours, materials and patterns to minimise visual, infrared, radar conspicuity, to aid aircraft to merge into their operating environment and prevent surveillance. Pyrotechnic systems, such as signal flares and lighting systems, are employed to threat divert, communicate and provide visibility of the battle field. These solutions are widely used in combat and tactical aviation to increase survivability, mission success rates, and to offer essential protection against ever-advancing air defense systems.
